inspired by Brian Davies (1934 – 2019) long term volunteer at The Elms &
​The Tauranga Historical Society
Inspired by Brian Davies (1934-2019), our Trust was asked by the Davies family and The Elms Te Papa to be the Kaitiaki of  ‘The Tauranga & Western Bay of Plenty Heritage Fund’.  This endowment fund has been set up under the Acorn Foundation and our Trust will be assisting Acorn to promote it as a worthwhile project for Tauranga & Western Bay of Plenty. 

The fund's purpose:
To build a fund whose annual interest will ultimately be used to go towards the daily operational costs of  selected in-situ Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty Heritage Experiences.  Experiences where the events actually happened - or places of historical interest or significance. The fund is to continue to be grown with its annual income being dispersed equally across deserving in-situ heritage experiences throughout Western Bay of Plenty. ​

About Brian
Brian was a strong supporter of heritage experiences around Tauranga & Western Bay of Plenty. 

​Brian’s love of history led him to The Elms Te Papa where he was a long time volunteer. He was also a committed member of Tauranga’s Historical Society and Brain Watkins House Museum.  Brian worked tirelessly in support of more emphasis being placed on in-situ heritage and connected heritage journeys throughout Western Bay of Plenty.

 HERITAGE FUND for Tauranga & Western Bay
  • Its an endowment fund
  • The annual income is to go towards independent in-situ heritage organisations for operational costs. 
  • Donations qualify for the charitable donations tax rebate.
  • Donors will automatically become ‘Heritage Friends’ with Taonga Tū | Heritage Bay of Plenty  for the period of 12 months following the date of donation with the option of renewal annually to secure ongoing ‘Heritage Friend’ status.
  • Name recognition as a ‘Heritage Friend’ on our website, if desired
  • Invitations to all exhibitions / functions / events
  • A special ‘Heritage Friend’ fee to all paying functions
  • Regular updates as to what is happening

  • the embracing all cultures equally to tell their stores
  • fun, informative interactive heritage experiences for locals, schools and visitors
  • stimulating heritage education experiences
  • shared knowledge of our taonga (treasures)
  • a platform for ideas about our future base on the heritage of the region
  •  a variety of in-situ experiences
What else we can achieve is up to the creativity of the team
