 MUSEUM | HERITAGE CENTRE FUND for Tauranga & Western Bay
inspired by Brian Davies (1934 – 2019) long term volunteer at The Elms &
​The Tauranga Historical Society
Inspired by Brian Davies (1934-219), our Trust was asked by the Davies family and The Elms Te Papa to be the Kaitiaki of  ‘The Tauranga & Western Bay of Plenty Museum Fund’.  This endowment fund has been set up under the Acorn Foundation and our Trust will be assisting Acorn to promote it as a worthwhile project for Tauranga & Western Bay of Plenty. 

The fund's purpose:
To build a fund whose annual interest will ultimately be used to go towards the daily operational costs of a regional museum when and if Tauranga is fortunate enough to have one situated here.  If, after ten to fifteen years, the city still does not have a mandate to build a regional museum, the fund will continue to be grown with its annual income being dispersed equally across deserving heritage experiences throughout our subregion. ​

About Brian
Brian was a strong supporter of Tauranga & Western Bay of Plenty getting its regional museum and was, his family say, deeply disappointed that this was taking so long. Brian truly believed that the people of Tauranga and Western Bay were being let down.  

​Brian’s love of history led him to The Elms where he was a long time volunteer. He was also a committed member of Tauranga’s Historical Society and worked tirelessly in support of a central home where our region could tell its stories and then branch out to enjoy connected heritage experiences.

  • Its an endowment fund
  • The annual income is to go towards the costs of running a regional museum.
  •  Donations qualify for the charitable donations tax rebate.
  • Donors will automatically become ‘Heritage Friends’ with Taonga Tū | Heritage Bay of Plenty  for the period of 12 months following the date of donation with the option of renewal annually to secure ongoing ‘Heritage Friend’ status.
  • Name recognition as a ‘Heritage Friend’ on our website, if desired
  • Invitations to all exhibitions / functions / events
  • A special ‘Heritage Friend’ fee to all paying functions
  • Regular updates as to what is happening
